According to the United Nations, The Sustainable Development Goals "are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all; they address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice." (source listed below). The Sustainable Development Goals, commonly known as the SDGs, were created in 2015 and is one of the UN Resolutions called the "2030 Agenda".

Here are the Sustainable Development Goals:

Given the complex nature of our world, I was curious to see what current teenagers would see as the most important sustainability goal that communities strive to prioritize. So, I asked my ambassadors. (I wouldn't let them choose SDG #17; that's the equivalent of "all the above"!)

Ethan Hwang

SDG #4: QUALITY OF EDUCATION

Ethan chose the 4th sustainable development goal because he believes that access to a high-quality education helps reduce poverty and crime rates and uplift underserved communities. He also believes that the education system should reflect current societal issues and give students tools to create sustainable change to combat inequality.

Sol Rivera

SDG #2: ZERO HUNGER

Sol chose the 2nd sustainable development goal because she believes that eradicating food insecurity is a pressing issue that can be solved. She believes that ensuring all have access to food and other bare necessities is key then instituting other sustainable development goals to work towards equality.

Will Saxman

SDG #10: REDUCED INEQUALITIES

Will chose the 10th sustainable development goal because he believes it is a realistic and achievable goal for a community. Coming from a city with a large Latinx community, he believes that working to solve systemic inequalities will help unite us and create equal opportunities for all.

Zac Spivak

SDG #3: GOOD HEALTH & WELL-BEING

Zac chose the 3rd sustainable development goal because he believes that the overall wellness of a community must be sought after in order to advance the other sustainable development goals. He is especially passionate about accessible healthcare, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
